There.com orphans find a new home in Blue Mars

Postby glennsanders » Wed Mar 03, 2010 10:34 am

Dear There.com orphans,

We received several emails from There.com members asking about how Blue Mars might become a new home for them. Many There members visited Blue Mars yesterday as well.

I hesitated to post about There.com, but today we received an urgent email message from Mike, a former There denizen. Mike explained that There members hoped to stay together, and not lose their community. He urged us to make a place for the There community set in the Blue Mars.

Having suffered through a similar experience in the past, I totally understand the feeling of being lost at sea, and the fear and sadness of losing touch with close friends.

We would like to officially welcome There members to Blue Mars with the promise that we will offer shelter and help you make a new place that you can call home.

I just Skyped with Peter_B (aka Desmond Shang), one of the founding members of There.com and founder of Caledon in Second Life. Des is developing Caldedonia and Pavonis in Blue Mars. He is considering building some tiki huts in Pavonis where There members could at least gather. Des and I will follow up about this today.

In the meantime you can register as a Blue Mars member, download the client then come to the Welcome Area of Blue Mars. I am usually in-world during the day, unless I’m in meetings.

You can also post to this forum. Active There developers can connect through this forum topic and decide what you want to do. You can register as a Blue Mars developer at https://dev.bluemars.com/DeveloperRegistration/. Then work together to build a new and lasting community in Blue Mars.

Contact me by private message on this forum to let me know who you are, and what your vision is for There members in Blue Mars.

I’m planning some “There Re-connect” events in Blue Mars over the next several days to provide focal points for There members to meet in-world.

Again we welcome There members and pledge to support you as valuable members of the Blue Mars metaverse.

Follow us on http://twitter.com/bluemarsonline for frequent updates and info.

Thank you so so much Glenn, this really means alot to me. I am also a Therian refugee. But I have been a member of BM for a few months now. I have been telling everyone I know about Blue Mars throughout the months, and even more so yesterday. I have been designing for There for nearly 3 years, which had become my real life job. It is truely amazing how the There community is so bonded. You never really realize those things til something like this happens. I have also let everyone know that BM is still in open beta, and not that much to do right now. Again thank you from the bottom of my heart for accepting us, and we all really look forward to seeing where BM is headed like we were for There.

I have been visiting Blue Mars beta infrequently but, for a quite a while now. I was intrigued by the possibilities Blue Mars presents. I especially am interested how musicians/music will or can be integrated into the milieu.
It's very heartwarming that former Thereians will be welcomed in BM. The problem for many former There citizens is that Blue Mars is difficult to access for those without the hardware and internet bandwidth necessary.
That being said . Thank you Glenn, and the rest of Blue Mars team for the welcome and thank you Davey for your efforts ! 'tu :
Blue Mars can be a home for developers, that is a definite plus and a rarity for Virt. worlds I have looked at. Thanks again and it looks like I will be spending more time in the beta now ! JT

Therian orphan here and I appreciate the warm welcome. Through hearing the bad news myself yesterday and talking with other Therians I have recommended to the users to keep an eye on this place for sure. A lot of them logged in yesterday to check it out and they liked what they saw even when some of their older computers were unable to run it smoothly. I would expect to see a split on the community since some of them already were avid players of SL as well. The ones who do not care for SL adult content and other reasons will more than likely show up here in BM. I have been coming in periodically over the past 4 or 5 months to see how it was going and to get my feet wet. I am a developer and look forward to creating content to be used here. I may not be designing a city right away but I do see myself creating other items users will need to decorate homes and/or apartments plus many other items that city builders may want. I can hardly wait.

Thank you,
CarCus

Hello.

My name is Majandi and too have been a developer in There.
Cheers Carcus, DavyRocket !! Some others may know me too.

I live in Germany and actually arrived in There as an URU live orphan back in 2004.
So, this is actually the second time for me.

I spent more than 6 years of developing and designing for There and had over 500 active 3D items in auctions.

I also did quite a deal of contract work for the There staff, building signs, rewards, architecture and so on.
I translated the complete client into German as at one time we figured that the German market with nearly 40 million Internet users would be an attractive target. But it was never launched. No one ever really knew anything about There.com here in Germany. The average German thinks Second Life and WOW are the only two 3D online worlds on the Internet.

I already signed up for Blue Mars some time ago, but never really had a closer look.
I signed up for the developer program now and would be happy to continue my creative 3D work here, if possible.

Dont know If Ill stick around yet I logged in and looks ok at the moment (didnt feel like doneing much at the time), was a little laggy for me not sure yet if I was caused by the download of the world or my internet connection but I will be giving a it a try again and see if stuff smoothes out. Hope you see you all around.

I signed up for Blue Mars last year. I had trouble downloading it because of the files were very large. Now that I was able to download it and check it out. This place is amazing! All of the staff members that have worked on it has done a great job. Eventhough, I will miss There.com and it will be hard to get over it because I was use to it. I will have the best time of my life on here. I am thinking of becoming a designer here but, I want to get use to this place first before i jump to it. Thank you Glenn and all of the staff for inviting the Thereian's to Blue Mars. That is very nice of you doing it.

I am wondering, What are your opertating hours? Do you guys close for Server Maintance?

They occasionally take the servers down for an update, but it's not like a nightly or weekly schedule.
