What is happening, that disappointment in the update

What is happening, that disappointment in the update

Postby Villy Bailey » Tue Oct 20, 2009 3:29 am

I created an orkut community to promote the Blue Mars in my country, but the grid despite being in development and is very disappointing.
The new cities are of a quality construction and graphics much worse than second life, basic textures, without effects, all square, bad lighting.
The transportation is very bad, if more than 10 people in one place is difficult to get around, the view is limited with no zoom farther.

I love the Blue Mars and I am advocating and disseminating it in my country, but if not taken drastic action and fast, Blue Mars will "die before being born," sad and regrettable.

It seems that the new towns are being made by amateurs, for starters, do not worry about the movement, with details of landscape, the Blue mars is a product being sold to the world, needs to be done diligently, carefully, and not by amateurs.

I apologize to everyone, but I need venting, I have advocated the Grid, telling community members that will await news, the blue mars is going to revolutionize the virtual worlds, I was anxiously waiting to test the new version in order to take pictures and disclose, did not take a picture, I'm ashamed, oughtta without having to talk to members of my community, again sorry, but if I'm doing this criticism is why I wish the success of Blue Mars, and the way it's going not happen.

I apologize for my English.

Holy Moly's!

Holy Critical acclaim!

It can't be as bad as you say it is Villy...

Holy Moly!

To quote the words of a famous person from the movie CaddyShack:

"This calls for the old Villy Varuul."

"Oh villy villy villy, this is the big one, villy villy villy."

One word. Beta. Any good MMO goes through growing pains. BM is no exception. But please understand that this is just the beginning and the best thing that we can do at this point is have patience and provide constructive feedback. I frankly think there is some good modeling being done and see the potential from just visiting the few areas we have to explore. There are good places to take pictures at. You have passion for BM, I can tell, and can relate to the frustration, but that isn't going to help much with production. Things will pick up :). When the creators and artists can upload more material to the servers, the true light of BM will shine. Just give it time.

I simply love the lighthouse and the statue's head at Grid Rock.

One last comment, if I were a Common User, which is a walk in the BM, nor mind, but I hired builders to teach members of my community as in BM, I'm going after new users, using a profile on orkut especially to disseminate photos and information, I am struggling to help promote the Blue mars, so my anger if I did not care, it would not at all worried.

Why must you vent? Will it change the situation? No. All you are doing is adding to the cacophony of voices that have unfulfilled preconceived notions. None of these notions are the fault of the devs. Blue Mars is a long way from being ready to 'play in'. At the moment everyone is learning how to do things, how it all works and what is possible. This means the devs must have the confidence to experiment and be allowed to make mistakes without being screamed at for being amateurs. What all the devs need now is a strong community of beta-testers that will report problems and guide them with constructive feedback and praise so they can achieve their plans. So, if you are unable or unwilling to do that and all you can do is vent, maybe it might be better if you take a hiatus for a few months and then check back later. It will save you some embarrassment and will let those of us who are serious about achieving this platform's potential to concentrate on what needs to be done.

Goodness. The new cities are a little bit bare bones, but worse than Second Life? I would have said they were on par with some of the better builds in Second Life, and Blue Mars is still in beta. None of these cities are finished yet.

Issues with movement, camera control, IDs, chatting and messaging, are ongoing, and with each new patch, are gradually dealt with. This is what it means to be in beta: ideas are being tested and developed.

As beta-testers, we are guinea pigs, lab rats, crash test dummies. It's our job to find out what works, what can be improved, and to provide feedback to the people who are doing all the hard work behind the scenes to keep the Blue Mars platform stable and useable.

It is very easy to say: "OMG I HATE THOSE POINT AND CLICK SHINY CONES THAT GO BING EVERY TIME I MOVE!!!" But not very useful to the developers.

It is much more helpful to say: "Can we have the option to switch off the sound when we click to move, it gets very annoying, especially when you're trying to navigate around objects."

So rather than vent, how about you offer some suggestions about what needs to be improved, or why they need to be improved, and how those improvements could be made?
Warning: This post may be under-caffeinated.

I do not agree, you need not be the master of creation to have more commitment to the diversification and quality of textures and quality, a builder with minimal experience will test the means of locomotion after creating a city, if the creator has these basic qualities, it should not venture into Blue Mars, here it is not a joke, and the builder who resent criticism, and only want accolades, also is not ready, I'm sorry
